Application prospects of polypropylene filament non-woven geotextiles

1 Landfill

With the economic development of urban waste is increasing, common waste disposal methods are sanitary landfill, incineration, composting and so on. Sanitary landfill is widely used in China because it has the advantages of low cost and good hygiene. Usually the landfill is composed of cover system, liner system, leachate collection system, gas collection and treatment system, leachate discharge system [15-16], and the liner system plays the role of lateral drainage, seepage control, and requires materials with excellent resistance to high temperature, freezing, corrosion, acid and alkali resistance. The combination of polypropylene filament geotextile and impermeable geomembrane liner fully meets the requirements of the liner system, so the polypropylene filament nonwoven geotextile has a very good application prospect in the landfill.

2 sewage treatment plant

With the development of industrial water pollution is becoming increasingly serious, the level of sewage treatment directly affects the quality of the urban environment, the residents of the drinking water safety and nature's water cycle system. According to the national urban wastewater treatment management information system statistics, by December 2013, the domestic sewage treatment plant has been built to 4,136 [17]; polypropylene filament geotextile and seepage control geomembrane composite materials with excellent seepage control function, while high temperature, anti-freezing, corrosion resistance, acid and alkali resistance performance is excellent, so in the wastewater treatment plant structure leakage control measures have a very good prospect of application! Therefore, it has a very good application prospect in the anti-seepage control measures of sewage treatment plant structures.

3.Fly Ash Landfill

Coal reserves are the largest and the energy structure is dominated by coal, the total amount of fly ash produced by coal combustion has exceeded 1 billion t, and is still increasing at the rate of 0.8~1 billion t per year, which has become the largest ash discharge country in the world [18]. Fly ash is mainly composed of acidic oxides, and the pH value increases with the prolongation of time in contact with water up to more than 12, which is strongly alkaline, so polypropylene filament nonwoven geotextile is inevitably used in the construction of fly ash landfill.

4 Tailings storage yard

China is a large mining country, each year due to beneficiation and the tailings can reach hundreds of millions of t, of which a small part as filling materials in the mine roadway backfill or comprehensive use, and the vast majority of tailings generated in the tailings storage. Most of the metal tailings ponds such as gold, lead, copper, alumina, mercury, cadmium, chromium and molybdenum, etc. leachate is basically alkaline, some are strongly alkaline. It is appropriate to use acid and alkali resistant polypropylene geotextile as impermeable membrane, auxiliary polypropylene geotextile composite drainage network, can play a reinforcing, drainage and anti-filtration effect.

5Other applications

In the polyester filament non-woven geotextile application field, almost can be replaced by polypropylene filament non-woven geotextile, such as highway, railway roadbed paving, dam reinforcement and so on.
